Fanm Decide is an organization for promotion and advocacy that began in March 1989 in Jacmel, southeast of the town of Haiti. The number of active members is around 350, without counting the women’s organizations affiliated. A coordinating committee consisting of 5 permanent staff is in place and a committee consisting of delegates from 4 members elected by the General Assembly joins Coordination 2 times a month to coordinate activities with members, choose the topics for discussion and discuss and plan the commemorative days and training.

Fanm Decide specifically working with grassroots women in Jacmel and the surrounding communities who most often raise their children alone. In most cases they fail to meet their basic needs, their living condition is very precarious and it is with great courage they get to meet the needs of their families. Culturally they are confined to roles of subordinates and servants of men. This subordination makes them vulnerable to violence of all kinds. In terms of training and awareness, this fact has guided Fanm Decide on this issue mainly.

The main objective of Fanm Decide:

Make known the rights and values ??of women and fight for the enforcement in society.

The specific objectives are Fanm Decide:

• Fight to End Violence Against Women

• Changing the structure of society so that women everywhere have their place

• Improve the living conditions of women

The means chosen by Fanm Decide to achieve its objectives are:

• Provide training on rights, laws, literacy, women’s health, children’s education etc..

• Make known the demands of women

• To show solidarity with other women’s groups whenever possible at regional, national and international

• Establish economic and community projects that promote improved quality of life of women (microcredit, mutual savings and credit, production workshop and sale of natural products and processed products (cream, coffee powder, ginger etc.).

• Organise annual retreats at the March 8, from 25 November, from 26 May and other important days for the Advancement of Women.

• Support and advice to other women’s organizations in the area

• Home, coaching and referring to women victims of violence

Locally, Fanm Decide involved for many years in the department of South-east at 5 communes and expand this year 7. Fanm Decide is the only reference in promoting and defending the rights of women in the town of Southeast.
